Oscar Tysoe Piano and Theory

About me
I studied Music at Durham University and I have a DipABRSM in Piano Performance. I have two years of experience teaching the piano, helping students of varying ages and abilities achieve their musical goals. I have also have experience as an academic teacher of Music in several independent schools and hold Qualified Teacher Status. Currently, I am studying for a part-time MA in Orchestration.

As a teacher, I believe my role is to help students build a rewarding and successful relationship with music and discover their own musical personality.
I enjoying working with students to establish compelling and individualised musical goals for them. For example, these might be to succeed in graded exams or to simply learn your favourite songs/pieces.
I strive to develop a variety of wider musical skills in my students. For example, I believe developing the ability to aurally recognize musical features as well as use your “Inner ear” to hear music before you play are both key skills for any musician. I also like to introduce students to basic improvisation in simple, game-like exercises to demonstrate how rewarding (and fun!) creativity can be in music.
Progress is the result of many small, successful steps so I set manageable goals for each lesson to help ensure my students are always improving.
*In addition, to my musical qualifications, I also hold an enhanced DBS check.
Why learn the piano with me?
