Oscar Tysoe Piano and Theory
Theory and academic support
For ABRSM music exams, Grade 5 Theory is a prerequisite for those want to take practical exams at Grade 6 and above. By breaking each concept down and learning to apply it in a variety of real world contexts, I aim to make learning music theory as accessible and dynamic as possible.
I also have experience of working with students in an academic context, having taught GCSE and A level classes in my two years of experience as a teacher of Music. In 2019, I obtained Qualified Teacher Status through E-qualitas with several of my formally assessed lessons graded as “Outstanding”.
I am able to offer support with a variety of areas for GCSE and A level music students looking to achieve higher grades in this subject such as:
-
Structuring an academic essay and develop a well evidenced line of argument
-
Improving knowledge and recall of exam board set works
-
Developing the acute listening skills required for exams and the ability to better vocalise your aural observations
-
Improving quality of composition coursework at GCSE and A level
Composition is a particular passion of mine and I thrive on helping students improve their work. For example, 40% of the GCSE class I taught from 2019-20 achieved a grade 9 and 60% achieving a grade 7-9, with the coursework component being a significant part of this final result.
